ATrad Powers the SEC-CSE Stock Market Game, Opening the Door to Sri Lanka’s Next Generation of Investors

Initiated by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka in partnership with the Colombo Stock Exchange, the Stock Market Game is developed and implemented by ATrad, bringing live market information and hands-on learning together to help more Sri Lankans experience the stock market with confidence.

ATrad is proud to power the technology behind the Stock Market Game, an investor education initiative led by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) in partnership with the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE). The initiative brings practical stock market learning closer to students, aspiring investors and the wider public.

Developed and implemented by ATrad, the capital markets technology suite of IronOne Technologies, the platform gives participants the opportunity to understand stock market trading by experiencing the process themselves. They can follow live market movements, explore listed securities, place simulated orders and manage a virtual investment portfolio without committing real money.

For ATrad, supporting this SEC-led initiative alongside the CSE is an achievement with a purpose that reaches across Sri Lanka’s capital markets: helping more people move from an interest in investing to the awareness and practical understanding needed to participate responsibly.

Real Market Information. Practical Experience.

The first step into the stock market can be daunting. Prices move, unfamiliar terms appear on trading screens, and every investment decision requires thought. Even after learning the basics, a newcomer may still wonder what placing an order or managing a portfolio actually involves.

The SEC–CSE Stock Market Game gives participants a place to find out.

Connected to live market data from the Colombo Stock Exchange, the ATrad-powered simulator allows users to observe actual prices and market movements while practising with virtual funds. Orders are executed entirely within the simulation environment and are never sent to the live exchange.

Participants can learn from real market information while having the freedom to practise, make mistakes and reconsider their decisions without putting their savings at risk.

ATrad Technology Behind the Complete Trading Journey

ATrad has delivered a platform that takes participants through the essential stages of stock market trading, from researching a security to reviewing the outcome of an investment decision.

Users can create personalised watchlists, review market depth and analyse price movements through interactive charts. With a predefined allocation of virtual capital, they can place simulated buy and sell orders, amend active orders and follow their status through the Order Blotter.

As they trade, participants can track their available virtual cash, portfolio value, and investment gains or losses. Each part of the process helps connect a concept learned in a classroom or awareness session with an action on a trading platform.

Understanding an order becomes easier after placing one. Understanding market movements becomes more meaningful when those movements affect a virtual portfolio. That connection between knowledge and experience is where the simulator’s educational value comes to life.

Making Learning Engaging Through Competition

The platform supports the SEC–CSE initiative with tools to organise structured trading competitions for schools, universities and other participant groups.

Competition organisers can assign groups, set the initial virtual capital and schedule start and end dates. Participants can explore the platform before a competition begins, with simulated trading enabled automatically when the scheduled competition starts.

An automatically updated leaderboard adds a shared challenge to the learning experience. Rankings reflect overall investment performance, accounting for both available virtual cash and the current market value of portfolio holdings against the initial capital provided. Participants can follow the top competitors, their own overall position and their ranking within an assigned group.

Administration and reporting capabilities support programme oversight, while competition history reports preserve results for later review. Together, these features enable organised, repeatable learning experiences and the evaluation of participant performance.

Broadening Participation Through Awareness and Practice

Democratising stock market participation begins with giving more people a fair opportunity to understand it.

Access to a trading platform is only part of that journey. Prospective investors also need familiarity with the market, an appreciation of risk and the ability to think carefully about their decisions. The Stock Market Game creates an accessible starting point for developing that understanding.

Its purpose extends beyond competition rankings. The deeper value lies in helping participants ask better questions, recognise the consequences of their choices and build confidence grounded in practice.

By providing the technology behind this initiative, ATrad supports the SEC and CSE in bringing practical investor education to a wider audience and encouraging informed participation in Sri Lanka’s capital market.

A Proud Milestone for ATrad and Sri Lanka’s Capital Markets

For the ATrad team, powering the Stock Market Game is a proud extension of its contribution to Sri Lanka’s capital market.

The initiative brings together the SEC’s leadership in investor education, the CSE’s role as the exchange partner and ATrad’s expertise in capital markets technology. Through this collaboration, students and aspiring investors have an opportunity to move beyond theory and gain practical familiarity with trading.

ATrad is proud to have developed and implemented the technology that makes this experience possible, supporting an SEC-led initiative delivered in partnership with the CSE to help more Sri Lankans learn, practise and take their first informed steps towards investing.
